Sexually Transmitted Infections

There are many causes of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Infection occurs when you come into sexual contact with an infected individual. They can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Common symptoms can include:

  • Genital pain and/or itchiness
  • Discharge
  • Warts
  • Ulcerations

Treatment of STIs

While there are many causes of STIs, the treatments vary. Common infections include gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes simplex virus (HSV), human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, and HIV/AIDS. Some STIs require ongoing treatment and counseling.

We can provide advice and possibly even treatment. Testing before initiating intimate contact with a new partner and/or using a condom are both good ways to help mitigate transmission of an STI.
