About Miramar

Miramar is a city in southern Broward County, Florida, United States. Established in 1955, it was named for the Miramar area of Havana, Cuba, where its founder A.L. Mailman had a summer home (“Miramar” translates to “look at the sea” in Spanish). As of the 2020 census, the population of Miramar was 134,721 and it serves as a central hub within the Miami metropolitan area which has an approximate population of six million people.

Originally designed as a bedroom community for nearby Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Miramar was founded by A.L. Mailman when he purchased land from H.D Perry Sr. in 1953 and built 56 low-cost concrete homes with flat roofs that sold quickly due to their affordability both in price and land value.
