Treatment of Carpal Tunnel

The carpal tunnel is an area in the wrist surrounded by bones and ligaments. When the median nerve is compressed, you may start to feel some of the symptoms described above. Repetitive motions are one of the most common causes. We often see this in people who use a computer frequently for work or workers who use vibrating tools, such as construction workers. Risk factors other than repetitive motion, include prior wrist injury, diseases that injure nerves (e.g. diabetes), inflammatory conditions (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), medications, and pregnancy. Treatment options include conservative measures, such as reduced force on the wrist, wrist splinting, and medications. In more severe cases, sometimes surgery is necessary for relief.
